Week 21 - Isaiah 55:1-13
This week we come to the end of what is commonly called Second Isaiah (Isa 40-55). You will remember that Second Isaiah starts with a call of "Comfort, Comfort my People". Here at the end of much back and forth between God and the people, the prophet once again returns to the theme of comfort. He offers the people a text of good news that had the potential to both comfort them and encourage them on the long trek back to Jerusalem. It is another exodus, this time from Babylon and not from Egypt. And this time it is not to be one accomplished with fear and rushing but with peace and joy for God will lead the procession home. Our text has many well-loved verses which will be familiar to you. I'm hoping that our meditation on the text will bring comfort and hope to us as well in whatever we are going through.
