    Minaki Haiku

by Penny Kovacs

WHILE SPENDING THE week at Minaki in June, I found myself led into the woods behind our Airbnb. The Canadian Shield forest floor was stunning with its mosses and lichen-covered rocks. I found myself taking pictures, and afterwords I putting them to poems. My mom had just died, and the minimalist haiku structure somehow allowed me to voice my grief.
